This design prevents contaminants from passing under the bench and entering the clean area. Solid base benches are available with or without storage options. Whichever style you choose, ensure that the bench can be securely bolted to the floor. Bosio benches, for example, feature a tab and hole for this purpose. When determining the size, carefully consider your airlock's dimensions.
Choosing the Appropriate Size
Choosing the correct size is crucial for your airlock. Standard bench sizes range from 3 to 7 feet in length, with a typical height of 16 to 18 inches. If the benches will be placed between walls, leave approximately 1 to 2 inches of clearance on each side to facilitate cleaning.

If the airlock requires decontamination with harsh chemicals, it is recommended to use type 316L stainless steel.
